It's been a long time since I've written anything. But, this picture is definitely worth posting. Look at it first before reading the rest of this. Hopefully the gif works. If not, download it and look at it.
Which way is the dancer turning (clockwise or counter-clockwise)?
If you said clockwise, then you use more of the right side of the brain and vice versa.
Most
of us would see the dancer turning counter-clockwise. For even more fun, though, try to see if you can focus and get the dancer to change direction. Seriously... it can be done.

I've been spending more time analyzing stocks lately. I read over reports, news, analytics, message boards, etc. on a daily basis now to keep up with what's going on with my investments. But, that's mainly because real money is involved there. What amazes me is how much time and effort people put into analyzing everyday things like sports for example.
I understand the need to analyze things if that's your job (like you're the GM). But, there are some people who analyze everything about every player just for fantasy sports. And most times, they don't even join leagues where there is money involved.
In fantasy sports, there are those who play for fun (drafting mainly on names). There are those who casually look at stats every now (mostly drafting based on name). And then there are those who do more analysis on the players than I do on my stock portfolio. My old manager was this way. He had an intense spreadsheet listing historical data for all players and then he had a weighted average calculation that he used to calculate the rank for everyone. He used this to figure out who to draft and what statistical categories he might want to watch out for.
I thought that the worksheet my manager had was pretty intense. And, as an ex-consultant, I've seen my fair share of spreadsheets and graphs... But, I was still shocked by what I saw today. A color graph that depicts in color coded tendencies what the player likes to do (more red = more shots, more green = more assists/steals, more blue = more rebounds/blocks). Wow. Now that is some intense analytics.
It's a big summer for the third installments of blockbuster movies. And, even though I'm excited about the films and love watching movies. I generally HATE going out during opening weekend and battling the crowds to catch the latest movies. Yet somehow.. for whatever reason... I've gone out to opening weekend showings for the past three weekends.
Spiderman 3 - I heard that once you watch the IMAX versions, you never go back. So, I decided to fork over the extra few dollars and watch the IMAX version. That screen is ridiculous. Great movie... until the screen blanked out 10 MINUTES BEFORE THE END! Stupid movie theater. The worst part is how they managed it afterwards. Instead of having ushers come into the theater so that people know what is going on... They turned everything off for a good 5 minutes as everyone sat in the theater and began boo-ing. I thought there was going to be a riot in the theater. Then, a generic announcement was turned on that said, "sorry for the inconvenience... bla bla bla." But, it didn't tell us whether we should stay in the theater or go home. At least I got my money back and free passes to see another movie at an AMC. Might not be watching the IMAX thing again anytime soon.
Shrek 3 - Shrek 1 was awesome. Shrek 2 was still funny (how can you not love Puss?). Shrek 3... had its moments but it was definitely not up to par with the other two. I think it tried to do too many things. I was going to use my free AMC passes for this one, but I forgot. But, I did end up seeing Lise and Mark at the theater as they were going to see Spiderman 3. Random. AND, I did finally see the last ten minutes of Spiderman 3. Apparently I didn't miss much.
Pirates of the Caribbean 3 - I really liked Pirates. It was a bit too long (2 hours and 45 minutes) and dragged on at times. But, there was plenty of action and comedy to keep things interesting. The best part was that I didn't feel like I bought a ticket to see half a movie (which is what I felt about Pirates 2). And, they kept things interesting by leaving a little something for a potential Pirates 4. Overall, a great movie. STILL forgot to use my free passes. So, perhaps I should complete the series of third-installments by going to watch Ocean's 13 during opening weekend? What do you think?
